For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12 ESV).

Discernment is a gift of the Spirit of God. It helps us distinguish between right and wrong, between what’s right and what’s almost right. There is a difference between the Spirit of God and other spirits. A political spirit, for example, is at work today. You can recognize a political spirit because there will be pride, division, strife, envy, and selfishness. Watch out for anyone who villainizes everyone and everything. Watch for anyone who pushes opinions over truth. A person with a political spirit does not honestly care for people but will use them, especially the Church, to accomplish their goals.

Lord, forgive us, the Church, for allowing the political spirit to gain influence in our churches.

• Repent of any way you may have been influenced.

• Pray for discernment and take up your spiritual armor. Our nation is facing a real spiritual battle (see Ephesians 6:12).

• Seek God’s wisdom, walk in humility, and renew your mind daily (see Colossians 3:12; Romans 12:2).
