Therefore, I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:1-4).

We are to pray for all who are in authority, not just those who align with our values or faith. It’s much easier said than done. We have all struggled to pray for this administration, haven’t we? Forgive us, Lord, when we have stubbornly defied your call to intercession for our nation’s leaders. You desire all of them to be saved and come to know the truth, so we agree with your Word.

• Ask God to give you His heart for our leaders; turn it into a prayer when you’re tempted to complain.

• Pray for the salvation of all of your elected officials. May they come to salvation and know the truth in Jesus Christ.
• Pray for ungodly, unrepentant leaders to be removed from office and replaced (see Psalm 109:8).
• Pray that godly, upright leaders would be elected into local, state, and national offices.
